Du Toitskloof Wine Cellar (DTK) was established
by six wine farmers as a co-operative winery in 1962. Today it
has 22 members, many of them second-generation descendants of
the founding members. They all live in a close-knit community
within a radius of 10 km from the cellar and all take a close
interest in its activities.
Where in the early years, when the
industry was highly regulated, DTK produced mainly in bulk for
the country’s produced
wholesalers, since the early 1990’s it concentrates increasingly
on the bottled wine market. It established from the outset its
reputation as a progressive winery, not only in the innovative
winemaking disciplines introduced in the cellar, but also in
guiding members in planting those great noble cultivars ideally
suited to the area’s temperate climate.
Today it markets
an extensive range of red and white table wines in addition to
fortified wines. It recently took a major step up by introducing
a range of high-value reserve wines. |
